Silicone lenses, also referred to as silicone optics, are crafted from ultra-transparent optical liquid silicone material using LSR injection molding. They are suitable for both indoor and outdoor lighting applications.
Silicon lenses are a game-changer in the world of LED lighting. Unlike traditional glass or plastic lenses, these lenses are made from optical liquid silicone material, offering a wide range of benefits for various applications. From industrial lighting to automotive headlights, silicon lenses are designed to improve light reflection and refraction, ultimately enhancing the performance of LED lights.
Today, I will introduce some key features of silicone lenses as follows:
Tips 1: Superior Light Transmittance:
With a light transmittance of 94% to 96%, silicone lenses outperform plastic optical lenses, ensuring maximum light output.
Tips 2. Extreme Temperature Resistance:
With the ability to withstand temperatures ranging from -40 to 200℃, silicone lenses are well-suited for LED lighting applications. For TVs, the typical operating temperature is approximately 80 degrees Celsius, whereas for headlights, it can reach up to 150 degrees Celsius.
Tips 3. Durable And Non-Yellowing:
Even after undergoing a 5000-hour 85℃/85% aging test, silicone lenses exhibit no signs of yellowing or discoloration, ensuring long-lasting performance.
Tips 4. UV Resistant:
Unlike plastic lenses, silicone lenses are resistant to UV light, preventing cracks or degradation when exposed to sunlight.
Tips 5. Waterproof Design:
Featuring a self-sealing and waterproof silicone ring, silicon lenses offer integral waterproofing for added durability.
Tips 6. Lightweight And Energy Efficient:
With a low density of around 1.05 to 1.08, comparing to traditional materials, silicone lenses contribute to energy efficiency and reduced energy consumption.
Tips 7. Shock-Resistant And Explosion-proof:
The flexible and soft nature of silicone lenses makes them resistant to explosions and shocks, ensuring reliability in various environments.
Tips 8. High Fluidity:
Optical liquid silicone lenses provide better molding fluidity, enabling faster flow under the same pressure and temperature. This allows for the creation of sharp corners, angles, and other angular designs in optical lenses. Additionally, they can be over-molded to achieve a lightweight design and minimize light loss.
Silicon lenses are a groundbreaking option for improving the performance of LED lights in various applications, providing durability, efficiency, and exceptional optical properties. Hopewell has been manufacturing custom silicon lenses since 2020 and has collaborated with numerous automotive headlights manufacturers to supply light guide silicon lenses for ADB headlights. These silicone lenses are gaining popularity in high power LED lighting due to their high temperature resistance and UV resistance. Here are some examples of the silicon lenses we have produced for our customers.
Firstly, we have the light guide silicon lenses, also known as silicon matrix lenses, which are used in automotive headlights for adaptive optics. These silicone lenses are crucial for automatically adjusting the focus of light to meet the requirements of the ADB module. Only silicone lenses can fulfill all the necessary technical requirements, as common optical materials like glass or thermoplastics cannot be used for the inner lens of the ADB.
Secondly, we have the silicone TIR lens, which utilizes the principle of total reflection to collect and process light, resulting in high efficiency and a beautiful spot effect. With an efficiency of over 90%, the silicon TIR lens offers advantages such as high light energy utilization, low light loss, small light collection area, and good uniformity.
Next, we have the silicone micro lens arrays, also known as silicon fly-eye lenses, which evenly distribute transmitted light to achieve uniform illumination. These silicone lenses are essential components of reflective equipment and are effective in controlling the directionality and uniformity of light emitted by LEDs. For now, this type of silicone lenses are mainly used for LED projectors.
Lastly, we have the HUD silicon backlight lens, which is used in Heads-Up Display (HUD) systems to enhance the backlighting of the display. This silicone lens improves visibility and clarity of information projected onto the windshield or other surfaces in the HUD system, making it suitable for automotive applications.
Each type of silicone lens has its own unique characteristics and benefits, catering to specific applications and desired lighting effects. When it comes to producing optical silicon lenses, the key factor is the precision machining of the LSR injection mold. At Hopewell, we have our own mold design and manufacturing department, equipped with top-of-the-line mold making equipment including TOSHIBA ULC High Precision Aspheric and Free-form Surface Grinder, TOSHIBA UVM High Precision Machining Center, INNOLITE IL300 Diamond Turning Lathe, and more.
In addition, we have established a class 100,000 clean production workshop and a class 10,000 inspection clean room for manufacturing optical silicone lenses. With 9 sets of imported Arburg and Sumitomo horizontal LSR injection molding machines, along with imported feeding systems, we ensure tight tolerance for optical silicon lenses.
Hopewell specializes in producing high precision and premium quality silicone products, experienced in LSR injection molding, and we have the capability to customize silicon lenses based on specific requirements.
